All pets should see the vet at least once annually. Routine examinations help your pet's veterinarian catch serious illnesses and chronic conditions in their early stages. During a routine exam, the vet will perform a full physical examination on your dog or cat. Specifically, the vet will inspect your pet's skin, eyes, teeth, coat, ears, heart beat and breathing.
The veterinarian will also weigh your pet, so you can monitor your pet's weight gain. These visits will help your pet's veterinarian keep tabs on your pet's health, and will also help your pet develop a lasting relationship with the vet. Over time, these visits will set the ground work for future visits, when your pet may need more extensive health care.
Sometimes pets have emergencies. Injuries, ingestion of poison and sudden illnesses can be a scary experience for your pet. Knowing where to turn when your pet has an emergency can help ensure that your pet will get the healthcare he or she needs to recover. At Dr. Nina's Animal Hospital, we'll use our state of the art equipment to diagnose your pet's condition and get your pet the urgent care he or she needs.
Vaccinations are important for your pet's health and well-being. Pet vaccinations protect pets from common illnesses and fatal diseases. We administer a range of core and non-core vaccines to our pet patients to help them stay healthy.
Your pet's vaccinations should start at age 6 to 8 weeks. In the first year of life, your pet will get a range of shots. These shots lay the foundation for a healthy immune system and help build immunity to serious illnesses. After the first year, your pet will need regular booster shots to maintain that immunity.
Some pets only need core vaccines, while other pets need a combination of core and non-core vaccinations. We talk to pet owners to determine which combination of vaccines are right for pets. Once we know which shots each pet needs, we set a schedule and help pet owners keep track of when their pet should be getting their shots.
Pets need to see the veterinarian for dental care at least once annually, and some pets need to see the vet twice annually. Dental exams help us identify problems like cavities, infections, loose teeth, cracked teeth and periodontal disease. In addition to dental exams, many pets need to have their teeth cleaned annually. During the cleaning procedure, we remove plaque, tartar, and stains from your pet's teeth. We'll also polish your pet's tooth enamel to help keep the teeth shiny and smooth.
If we find problems during the examination or during the cleaning process, we'll make recommendations for further treatment. Getting regular dental care can prevent a range of dental problems including bad breath, tooth aches, difficulty eating and tooth loss. Getting your dog or cat regular dental care can improve his or her oral health and can even improve your pet's quality of life.
